Glycidyyliryhmä is the Finnish term for the glycidyl group, a functional group characterized by an epoxide ring attached to a methylene group. Its chemical formula is CH2CHOCH2-. The glycidyl group is a reactive moiety, primarily due to the strained three-membered epoxide ring. This ring can readily undergo nucleophilic attack, leading to ring opening and the formation of new covalent bonds.

This reactivity makes the glycidyl group valuable in organic synthesis and polymer chemistry. It is often incorporated into monomers or crosslinking agents. For example, glycidyl methacrylate is a monomer used in the production of polymers with pendent glycidyl groups, which can then be further functionalized or crosslinked to create materials with tailored properties, such as enhanced adhesion or chemical resistance.
