Geotsentrisel

Geotsentrisel refers to a model of the universe in which the Earth is at the center. In this model, the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars all revolve around a stationary Earth. This concept was the dominant view of the cosmos for a long period in human history, particularly in ancient Greek astronomy. Claudius Ptolemy's Almagest, written in the 2nd century AD, provided a detailed mathematical framework for the geocentric model, using epicycles and deferents to explain the observed retrograde motion of planets. This system was remarkably successful in predicting planetary positions for its time. However, observations and the development of more sophisticated astronomical tools eventually led to challenges to this model. The heliocentric model, which places the Sun at the center of the solar system with the Earth and other planets orbiting it, proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus and later supported by the work of Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei, eventually replaced the geocentric view. Despite its eventual discrediting as an accurate representation of the solar system, the geocentric model played a crucial role in the development of astronomy and our understanding of the celestial sphere.
