Geenimuodot

Geenimuodot, also known as alleles, are different versions of the same gene. Genes are segments of DNA that contain instructions for building specific proteins, which in turn determine various traits in an organism. For example, a gene for eye color might have different alleles that result in blue, brown, or green eyes.

Individuals inherit two copies of most genes, one from each parent. These two copies can be the same allele or different alleles. If an individual has two identical alleles for a particular gene, they are said to be homozygous for that gene. If they have two different alleles, they are heterozygous.

The interaction between different alleles determines the observable trait, known as the phenotype. Some alleles are dominant, meaning their trait will be expressed even if only one copy is present. Other alleles are recessive, and their trait will only be expressed if both copies are the recessive allele. The study of how these alleles are inherited and expressed is the basis of genetics. Variations in geenimuodot are a primary source of genetic diversity within a population.
