G-Wagens, officially known as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, are a range of five-door, four-wheel drive, luxury off-road vehicles produced by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz. The G-Class was originally developed as a military vehicle in the 1970s at the request of the Shah of Iran, who was a major shareholder in Mercedes-Benz at the time. Production began in 1979, and it has been in continuous production ever since, making it one of the longest-running vehicle platforms in Mercedes-Benz history.
