GRCh36
GRCh36, also known as the Genome Reference Consortium human build 36, is a version of the human genome reference sequence. It was released by the Genome Reference Consortium in 2006. This build represented a significant improvement over previous versions, incorporating more complete chromosome sequences and providing a more accurate representation of the human genome at the time. GRCh36 was built upon the data generated by the Human Genome Project and subsequent sequencing efforts. It served as a foundational reference for a wide range of genomic research, including gene mapping, disease association studies, and comparative genomics. While superseded by later builds such as GRCh37 and GRCh38, GRCh36 played a crucial role in advancing our understanding of human genetics and continues to be referenced in historical scientific literature. Its development marked a step forward in the standardization of human genome representation, facilitating reproducible research and the comparison of genetic data across different studies.
