The primary purpose of GHS labels is to inform users about the potential hazards of a chemical product and provide guidance on safe handling, storage, and emergency procedures.

A GHS label typically includes several key elements. These include signal words, which are either "Danger" or "Warning," indicating the severity of the hazard. Pictograms, which are graphic symbols enclosed in a red diamond, represent specific hazard classes, such as flammability, toxicity, or corrosivity. Hazard statements describe the nature of the hazard and the degree of risk associated with a chemical. Precautionary statements provide advice on measures to be taken to prevent or minimize adverse effects from exposure, improper storage, or handling. Product identifiers clearly name the chemical substance or mixture, and supplier identification details are also mandatory. These elements work together to ensure that anyone who handles or uses a chemical product can quickly understand its risks and how to stay safe.
