Frgedæg
Frgedæg, also known as Frithuþæg or Frithuþæg of Mercia, was a 7th-century Anglo-Saxon king of Mercia, a kingdom in central England. He is primarily known for his role in the Battle of the Winwaed, a significant event in the Anglo-Saxon chronicles. Frgedæg is mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which records that he was killed in battle against the Picts in 655 AD. The exact circumstances of his death are not detailed in the Chronicle, but it is believed that he was part of a larger force that was defeated by the Picts. Frgedæg's reign is not extensively documented, and his rule is often overshadowed by the more prominent figures of his time, such as King Oswald of Northumbria. Despite this, his brief mention in the Chronicle highlights his role as a ruler during a crucial period in Anglo-Saxon history.
