Fosforüülaatorit

Fosforüülaatorit, often translated as phosphorylator, refers to a chemical compound or enzyme that facilitates the addition of a phosphate group (PO4³⁻) to another molecule. This process, known as phosphorylation, is a fundamental biochemical reaction in all living organisms. Phosphorylators play crucial roles in a vast array of cellular processes, including energy metabolism, signal transduction, and gene regulation.

In the context of cellular respiration, for example, inorganic phosphate (Pi) can be considered a phosphorylating agent when it is transferred to ADP to form ATP, the primary energy currency of the cell. Enzymes called kinases are a major class of biological phosphorylators. They catalyze the transfer of a phosphate group from a high-energy phosphate donor, such as ATP, to a specific substrate molecule. This phosphorylation can activate or deactivate the substrate, thereby modulating its function.
