Forsætisráðuneytið

Forsætisráðuneytið, or the Prime Minister's Office, is a government ministry in Iceland that supports the Prime Minister and the Government in policy development, coordination, and administration. As the cabinet secretariat, it coordinates inter-ministerial work, prepares government proposals, and oversees the implementation of cabinet decisions. The office serves as a central point for communications, information management, and liaison with Parliament (Alþingi) and with international partners. It works with other ministries to ensure coherence in policy across the executive branch and provides administrative and logistical support to the Prime Minister and ministers.

The Prime Minister's Office is part of the Government Administration (Stjórnarráðið) and operates under the authority of the Prime Minister. Its functions include strategic planning, monitoring of government priorities, and facilitating public communication and media relations. The organization adapts its structure to changing governments but maintains a core role in ensuring effective governance, coordinating policy, and facilitating the preparation of legislation and policy initiatives in collaboration with other state agencies.
