Fornovo

Fornovo is a comune in the province of Parma in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna. It is located about 90 kilometers (56 miles) southwest of Bologna and about 25 kilometers (16 miles) southwest of Parma. The town is situated along the Taro River, a tributary of the Po River.

The history of Fornovo is linked to its strategic location. It was a significant crossing point for the Taro River and was known in Roman times as "Taurum". The area gained historical importance due to the Battle of Fornovo, fought on July 6, 1495, between the French army of King Charles VIII and a coalition of Italian states. The battle was a complex engagement with an inconclusive outcome, but it marked a turning point in the Italian Wars, leading to the French withdrawal from the Italian peninsula at that time.

Today, Fornovo di Taro, as it is officially known, is a primarily agricultural center with some small industries. Its economy relies on farming, particularly the cultivation of cereals and livestock. The town offers a glimpse into the rural life of the region. Its proximity to the Apennine Mountains also makes it a starting point for hiking and exploring the natural landscapes of the area. The municipal territory includes several smaller hamlets and is characterized by its rolling hills and riverine environment.
