This area helps understand the relationship between the physical properties of sound and how we perceive them.

Auditory phonetics investigates how speech sounds are perceived by the listener. It explores the process of hearing and how the brain interprets the acoustic signals received by the ear. This involves understanding the capabilities of the human auditory system and how it distinguishes between different sounds.

Phonetics is fundamental to many other fields, including linguistics, speech therapy, language teaching, and the development of speech recognition technology. It provides the foundational knowledge for understanding the building blocks of spoken communication.
