Folksonomía
Folksonomía is a type of collaborative tagging system that allows users to collectively classify and organize information. Instead of a predefined hierarchical structure managed by experts, folksonomies rely on descriptive keywords, or "tags," assigned by the users themselves. These tags are typically free-form and can be chosen by anyone contributing to the system. When multiple users apply the same tag to an item, such as a webpage, photo, or article, a collective understanding of that item's content emerges. This emergent classification is often referred to as "wisdom of the crowds." Folksonomies are widely used on social bookmarking sites, photo-sharing platforms, and content management systems to facilitate discovery and retrieval of information. The simplicity of tagging makes it accessible to a broad range of users, contributing to the rapid growth and evolution of folksonomic systems. While offering flexibility and user-driven organization, folksonomies can sometimes suffer from inconsistency in tagging, the use of synonyms, and a lack of formal structure, which can make precise retrieval challenging. Despite these limitations, folksonomies have proven to be an effective method for organizing and navigating large datasets in a decentralized manner.
