Fleurus

Fleurus is a municipality in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. It is part of the Wallonia region and the arrondissement of Charleroi. The municipality encompasses the town of Fleurus and surrounding rural areas, located southeast of the Charleroi urban area in the Sambre Valley. It is connected by regional roads and rail links that integrate it with nearby towns.

Historically, Fleurus has roots in the Middle Ages and developed as an agricultural market town. The area is associated with several historic military engagements, including the Battle of Fleurus, fought near the town in the 17th century, and later military actions during the French Revolutionary Wars. The 19th century brought industrial growth, with coal mining and related industries expanding in the Charleroi region.

Today Fleurus combines residential communities with light industry and service sectors.
