Flüchtigkeit
Flüchtigkeit is a German term that translates to "volatility" or "transience" in English. It is often used in chemistry and physics to describe substances that readily evaporate at normal temperatures. Highly volatile substances have low boiling points and high vapor pressures, meaning they turn into gas easily. Examples include acetone, ethanol, and gasoline. This property makes them useful in certain applications, such as solvents and fuels, but also necessitates careful handling due to their flammability and potential for inhalation.
Beyond its scientific applications, Flüchtigkeit can also describe a more abstract concept of impermanence or instability.
