Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) is a faculty within many Indonesian universities that specializes in teacher education and education sciences. The term is widely used to denote the unit responsible for preparing teachers and conducting research in pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational psychology. FKIP serves as a central hub for training future educators across various levels of schooling.

FKIP typically houses departments and study programs that prepare teachers for early childhood education, primary education, and subject-specific secondary education. Common departments include Pendidikan Bahasa Indonesia, Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Pendidikan Matematika, Pendidikan IPA (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam), Pendidikan IPS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial), Pendidikan Seni, Pendidikan Olahraga, and Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan, among others. In addition to undergraduate programs leading to the degree Sarjana Pendidikan (S.Pd), FKIP also offers postgraduate programs such as Magister Pendidikan (M.Pd) and Doctoral programs in education-related fields in many institutions.

Historically, FKIP emerged as a central unit for teacher training during Indonesia’s expansion of higher education in the 20th century. Over time, some universities reorganized or renamed their faculties, with some institutions adopting “Fakultas Keguruan” or “Fakultas Pendidikan” as part of broader structural changes, while FKIP remains a widely recognized label in many universities.

The faculty’s mandate extends beyond pre-service teacher preparation to include research in pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational policy, contributing to teacher quality and educational reform in Indonesia.
