Femoroacetabuläres

Femoroacetabular is the adjective relating to the hip joint formed by the articulation between the femoral head and the acetabulum of the pelvis. The term is used in anatomy and clinical disciplines. The hip is a ball-and-socket joint supported by the joint capsule and ligaments. The articular surfaces include the femoral head, the acetabular cup, and the acetabular labrum, which deepens the socket and aids seal.

In humans, the hip permits flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, rotation, and circumduction; it bears body weight in standing and gait. Stability arises from the recessed acetabulum, the congruent surfaces of the head and socket, negative intra-articular pressure, the labrum, and the strong capsuloligamentous complex consisting of the iliofemoral, pubofemoral, and ischiofemoral ligaments.

Pathology: The term femoroacetabular is widely used in the context of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), a common cause of hip pain in young adults. FAI describes abnormal bone morphology at the femoral head-neck junction (cam type), the acetabulum (pincer type), or both (mixed). Repetitive contact can damage the labrum and cartilage, contributing to osteoarthritis. Diagnosis relies on clinical examination and imaging (X-ray, MRI). Treatment ranges from activity modification and physical therapy to arthroscopic or open surgery to correct impingement and repair labral/cartilage damage. In English-language texts, the corresponding adjective is femoroacetabular; the form femoroacetabuläres appears in German-language medical literature.
