Falósejtjei

Falósejtjei is a Hungarian term that translates to "phagocytes" in English. Phagocytes are a type of white blood cell that plays a crucial role in the immune system. Their primary function is to engulf and digest foreign particles, such as bacteria, viruses, dead cells, and cellular debris. This process is known as phagocytosis.

There are several types of phagocytic cells in the body. Among the most important are neutrophils and macrophages. Neutrophils are typically the first responders to sites of infection, rapidly engulfing and destroying pathogens. Macrophages, on the other hand, are larger and longer-lived cells that not only engulf pathogens but also present fragments of them to other immune cells, thereby initiating a more targeted immune response. Monocytes are precursors to macrophages, circulating in the bloodstream before migrating into tissues to differentiate.

Phagocytosis is a complex process involving several stages, including the detection of the foreign particle, its engulfment by the phagocyte, and its destruction within an intracellular vesicle called a phagolysosome. This mechanism is vital for maintaining tissue health and defending the body against a wide range of threats. Dysfunctions in phagocytic activity can lead to increased susceptibility to infections or contribute to the development of inflammatory diseases.
