Faksilla

Faksilla is the adessive form of the Finnish noun faksi, meaning fax. In Finnish grammar, faksilla denotes the means or channel through which something is done, roughly corresponding to “by fax” in English. It is used when something is sent, received, or transmitted via a fax machine. For example: Lähetin sopimuksen faksilla (I sent the contract by fax).

Etymology and usage. The noun faksi is a loanword from English fax. The form faksilla follows the standard Finnish pattern for the adessive case (-lla). The expression is common in formal and informal contexts and appears frequently in business, administrative, and legal language when documents are transferred or delivered by fax.

Contemporary relevance. With the rise of email and digital document exchange, the use of fax has declined in many sectors, particularly outside administrative and legal settings. Nevertheless, faksi and its instrumental form faksilla remain part of Finnish vocabulary and are still used to describe sending documents by fax, especially in contexts where a paper trail or legally recognized transmission is needed.
