Fagosomen
Fagosomen are membrane-bound organelles within a cell that contain material engulfed by phagocytosis. Phagocytosis, literally meaning "cell eating," is a crucial cellular process where the cell membrane extends to surround and internalize external particles. These particles can include bacteria, viruses, dead or dying cells, and cellular debris. Once the particle is enclosed, it forms a vesicle within the cytoplasm known as a phagosome.
The primary role of phagosomes is to facilitate the degradation and removal of engulfed material. Following
Phagocytosis and the subsequent processing by phagosomes are vital for the immune system, particularly for specialized
