FSCO

FSCO stands for the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario. It is the independent, statutory corporation that administers the following Ontario statutes: the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act, 1994; the Friendly Societies Act; the Insurance Act; the Mortgages Act; the Pension Benefits Act; the Personal Property Security Act; and the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002.

FSCO's mandate is to regulate and supervise the province's financial services sector to protect consumers and to enhance public confidence in the financial services sector. It achieves this by overseeing insurance companies, credit unions, loan and trust corporations, mortgage brokers, pension plans, and the real estate industry. FSCO also provides information and education to consumers regarding their financial services rights and responsibilities.

The organization operates under the Ontario Ministry of Finance. Its operations are funded by fees paid by the entities it regulates. FSCO is governed by a Board of Directors and led by a Chief Executive Officer. Its work involves licensing, registration, examination, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. FSCO plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability and integrity of Ontario's financial services market.
