Exoatmospheric

Exoatmospheric refers to anything that occurs or exists outside of a planet's atmosphere. This term is primarily used in the context of space exploration, astronomy, and military applications. When an object or event is described as exoatmospheric, it means it is located in space, beyond the gaseous envelope that surrounds a celestial body.

In spaceflight, exoatmospheric conditions are crucial for designing spacecraft and their components. Materials and systems must be able to withstand the vacuum, extreme temperature variations, and radiation present in space. The launch phase of a rocket, for example, begins within the atmosphere and transitions to exoatmospheric flight as it ascends.

Meteoroids traveling through space are exoatmospheric until they enter a planet's atmosphere and potentially become meteors. In military contexts, exoatmospheric intercepts refer to the destruction of incoming ballistic missiles in space, before they re-enter the atmosphere.
