Evinrude

Evinrude is a brand of marine outboard motors. It was founded by Ole Evinrude in 1907 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and quickly became known for producing the first practical gasoline-powered outboard motor. The company helped establish the outboard as a standard propulsion option for small boats, contributing to the growth of recreational boating and commercial use.

Over the 20th century, Evinrude grew as part of Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC). The brand, together with Johnson, formed one of the leading outboard producers of the era. After OMC's bankruptcy and dissolution in the early 2000s, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) acquired the Evinrude and Johnson product lines.

Under BRP, Evinrude developed a line of gasoline outboards based on direct-injected two-stroke technology known as E-TEC, marketed for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The range included two-stroke E-TEC engines and four-stroke models, with horsepower ratings spanning small to mid-range applications for pleasure boats and fishing craft, typically from around 2 HP up to several hundred horsepower.

In the 2020s BRP began to phase down new Evinrude production while continuing service and parts support for existing engines. The Evinrude name remains associated with a significant period in marine propulsion history, reflecting its early innovations and long-standing presence in recreational and commercial boating.
