Estilización

Estilización refers to the process of simplifying or exaggerating elements in a representation, whether in art, design, or performance, to achieve a particular aesthetic effect or to convey a specific idea. It moves away from strict realism and instead focuses on essential forms, characteristic features, or emotional impact. This can involve altering proportions, color, texture, or movement.

In visual arts, stylization might mean reducing a subject to its basic shapes and lines, as seen in some forms of graphic design or abstract art. Alternatively, it could involve amplifying certain features, like the exaggerated musculature in comic book characters or the flowing robes in classical Indian dance costumes. The goal is not to create a photorealistic depiction but to evoke a feeling, emphasize a concept, or create a distinct visual language.

In literature and theater, stylization can manifest in the dialogue, character archetypes, or narrative structure. Language might become more poetic, theatrical, or deliberately unnatural to highlight themes or character states. Similarly, stage design might employ abstract elements or symbolic props instead of realistic sets to create an atmosphere or convey meaning. The key is intentional departure from the ordinary to enhance artistic expression.
