Ekaterinoslav
Ekaterinoslav was the former name of the city now known as Dnipro, Ukraine. The city was founded in 1776 by Grigory Potemkin, a favorite of Catherine the Great, and was named in her honor. Located on the banks of the Dnieper River, Ekaterinoslav quickly grew into an important industrial and administrative center. Its strategic location and the development of iron ore mining in the surrounding region contributed to its economic prosperity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
