Eikansainvälisessä

Eikansainvälisessä is a Finnish phrase formed by the negation word ei and the inflected adjective kansainvälinen in the inessive form kansainvälisessä, meaning “in the international” or “in an international context.” In standard Finnish, the two elements are written as separate words: ei kansainvälisessä. The single-word form eikansainvälisessä is not considered standard in formal writing and may appear only in informal contexts, typographical styles, or headlines.

Grammatical use and meaning

Kansainvälinen is an adjective describing something related to international scope or relations. When inflected for case, kansainvälinen takes forms such as kansainvälisessä (ines­sive: in the international). The combination with ei negates the international attribute of the noun that follows or is implied. Examples: ei kansainvälisessä ympäristössä (not in an international environment), ei kansainvälisessä kilpailussa (not in international competition), ei kansainvälisessä mielessä (not in the international sense).

Orthography and style

The standard orthography keeps ei and kansainvälisessä separate. The concatenated form eikansainvälisessä appears mainly as a stylistic choice in informal writing or media headlines, but it is not a recommended or widely recognized standard.
