Dødbolten
Dødbolten is a term used in Norwegian to describe a deadbolt, a type of lock. A deadbolt functions by inserting a bolt into a strike plate on a door frame, offering greater security than spring-loaded latches. The bolt is typically operated by a key on one or both sides, or by a thumbturn on the interior. Unlike a spring latch, a deadbolt does not automatically engage when the door is closed. It must be manually locked. This makes it a more robust security measure against forced entry, as it cannot be easily jimmied open. Deadbolts are commonly used on exterior doors of homes and businesses for added protection. Their mechanism relies on the bolt's solid, rectangular shape, which provides significant resistance to being slid back. The term "dødbolten" literally translates to "dead bolt" in English, reflecting its non-springing, static locking action.
