Dormaa

Dormaa refers to a traditional area in the Bono Region of Ghana, as well as the administrative districts that lie within it, including Dormaa East District and Dormaa West District. The Dormaa are an Akan-speaking people who form one of the principal subgroups associated with the historic Brong-Ahafo area. The traditional seat of authority is the Dormaa chieftaincy, administered by the Omanhene and the Dormaa Traditional Council.

Geography and people: The area is largely rural and lies in central Ghana. The population engages mainly in agriculture and small-scale trade. Common crops include maize, cassava, yam, plantain, and vegetables; livestock farming is also practiced.

Culture and governance: The Dormaa maintain a system of customary law and ritual functions under the traditional council. Traditional festivals and ceremonies reflect the cultural heritage of the area, alongside national holidays and modern civic structures.

Administrative status: Since 2019, Dormaa has been part of the Bono Region, which was created from the former Brong-Ahafo Region. The Dormaa area is served by district assemblies and local facilities such as schools and health centers, with rural development driven by local governance and national programs.
