Dodd-Frankwalla is a comprehensive financial reform law signed into effect by US President Barack Obama on July 21, 2010. The law aims to strengthen financial regulations and prevent future economic crises. Named after its sponsors, Representative Barney Frank and Senator Chris Dodd, the law is a response to the 2007-2008 financial crisis.

The legislation consists of 15 titles that address various aspects of financial regulation, including consumer protection, mortgage lending, and bank oversight. Title I, also known as the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, establishes the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). This bureau is responsible for regulating and enforcing laws related to consumer financial products, such as mortgages, credit cards, and student loans.

Other key provisions of the Dodd-Frank Act include the creation of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC), which monitors potential systemic risks in the financial system, and the implementation of stricter capital requirements for banks. The law also imposes standardized reporting requirements on banks and other financial institutions to enhance transparency.

Despite its comprehensive nature, the Dodd-Frank Act has faced significant criticism and resistance from various industries, including insurance, securities, and banking. Many argue that the law creates regulatory burdens, increases compliance costs, and hinders economic growth. Others consider it too restrictive and ineffective in preventing future financial crises. Since its implementation, there have been several attempts to repeal or modify key provisions of the law.
