Djurvävnader

Djurvävnader, or animal tissues, are groups of similar cells and their intercellular substance that work together to perform a specific function. In biology, tissues are the organizational level between cells and organs. Animals are composed of four primary types of tissue: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. Each type has unique structures and functions essential for the animal's survival and operation.

Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces, lines cavities, and forms glands. It is responsible for protection, secretion, absorption, and filtration. Connective tissue supports, binds, or separates other tissues and organs. Examples include bone, cartilage, blood, and adipose tissue. Muscle tissue is specialized for contraction, enabling movement. There are three types: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscle. Nervous tissue transmits electrical signals, allowing for communication and coordination within the body. It consists of neurons and glial cells.

The study of animal tissues is called histology. Histological analysis is crucial in understanding both normal physiological processes and disease states. Differences in tissue structure and organization can be observed across various animal species, reflecting their evolutionary adaptations and lifestyles. The development and differentiation of these tissues from stem cells during embryogenesis are fundamental processes in developmental biology.
