Dikotilevillä

Dikotilevillä is a Finnish term that translates to "dicotyledonous" in English. It refers to a major group of flowering plants, scientifically known as Magnoliopsida. This classification is based on the presence of two embryonic leaves, or cotyledons, in the seed. This characteristic is a key distinguishing feature that separates them from monocotyledonous plants (monocots), which have only one cotyledon.

Dicotyledonous plants exhibit a wide range of diversity in their forms, encompassing herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees. They are characterized by several typical features, although exceptions exist. Their leaves often have net-like or branching venation. The vascular bundles in their stems are typically arranged in a ring, which allows for secondary growth and the formation of wood in many species.
