Demoduulointi

Demoduulointi, sometimes referred to as detection, is the process of extracting information from a carrier wave. In telecommunications and signal processing, information is often encoded onto a carrier signal through modulation. Demodulation is the reverse process, recovering the original information signal from the modulated carrier. This is a fundamental step in receiving and interpreting transmitted data, audio, or video.

Different modulation schemes require corresponding demodulation techniques. For example, Amplitude Modulation (AM) demodulation typically involves rectifying the signal and then filtering it to remove the carrier frequency. Frequency Modulation (FM) demodulation, on the other hand, requires circuitry that can convert frequency variations back into amplitude variations. Phase Modulation (PM) demodulation similarly recovers the phase shifts.

The goal of demodulation is to accurately reconstruct the original baseband signal. Imperfections in the transmission channel, such as noise and interference, can affect the quality of the demodulated signal. Advanced demodulation techniques often incorporate error correction codes and signal processing algorithms to mitigate these effects and improve the reliability of the recovered information. Without demodulation, the transmitted signal would remain an unintelligible carrier wave.
