DCvel

DCVEl, also known as DCVelocity, is a metadata extractor and project silo, officially released by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The system was designed for reusing information for missions and ensuring information consistency and interoperability throughout the global warfighter community.

DCVEl's primary function is to extract information from disparate sources, providing an actionable and consistent set of information. The system enables meaningful situational awareness and enhances decision-making through higher degrees of situational understanding. DCVEl accomplishes this by consolidating project information, reducing redundant data collection, and establishing interoperability among DCVEl-supported data sharing projects.

DCVEl supports multiple orientation types, including OGC WMTS, WMS, WFS, GML, KML, and GRIB files, allowing users to integrate data from various sources. The system also provides a graphical user interface, making it accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise. DCVEl follows standard metadata protocols for labeling and accessing the extracted information.

DCVEl is reportedly implemented at the US Navy, Air Force, and Army installations, indicating its integration into various Defense operations. DCVEl has also received support from both industry and academia, as various data sharing initiatives have such as Maritime Link study and Airframe Project.
