Crankslider

Crankslider is a term that can refer to a type of mechanical linkage or a specific type of engine. As a mechanical linkage, a crankslider mechanism consists of a crank rotating about a fixed center, connected to a slider by a connecting rod. The slider is constrained to move along a straight line. This mechanism converts rotary motion into reciprocating linear motion, or vice versa. Common applications of crankslider linkages include piston engines, pumps, and various automated machinery.

In the context of engines, a crankslider is the fundamental configuration of most reciprocating piston engines, such as those found in automobiles and motorcycles. The crankshaft, which rotates, is connected to the piston via a connecting rod. The piston is housed within a cylinder and moves up and down, or back and forth, performing the work of the engine.
