CommitObjekte, also known as commit objects, are fundamental components in version control systems like Git. They serve as snapshots of the state of a project at a specific point in time, capturing all changes made to files within a repository. Each commit object contains metadata such as the author, date, message, and a reference to the parent commit, allowing developers to track the evolution of their codebase.

A commit object is structured as a binary object in Git, consisting of two main parts: the commit header and the commit body. The header includes details like the commit type (e.g., "commit"), the hash identifier, and the tree object reference, which points to the directory structure of the files at that moment. The body contains the author information, committer information, a timestamp, and a descriptive message summarizing the changes.

When a developer makes changes to files in a Git repository and executes a commit command, Git creates a new commit object. This object is assigned a unique hash identifier, typically a 40-character hexadecimal string derived from the object’s content using SHA-1 hashing. This hash ensures data integrity, as even a minor change in the content alters the hash, making it easy to detect tampering.

Commit objects are stored in the Git object database, which is a collection of all objects (commits, trees, blobs) referenced by the repository. The commit object’s parent pointer allows Git to build a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of commits, enabling features like branching, merging, and history traversal. Developers can navigate this graph using commands like `git log`, `git checkout`, or `git merge`, making it easier to review, revert, or integrate changes.
