Branik

Branik is a village and historic site in western Slovenia. It is best known for Branik Castle, a medieval fortress perched on a hill above the settlement. The castle complex dates to the Middle Ages and is noted for its later expansions in the early modern period, reflecting shifts in ownership and military technique. The fortress historically guarded routes through the surrounding hills and valley and remained a local seat of administration for the region.

Today, Branik is a small rural community with an economy based on agriculture, forestry, and, increasingly, cultural tourism.
