The Bosporus, also known as the Istanbul Strait, is a natural strait and a globally significant waterway located in northwestern Turkey. It forms part of the continental boundary between Europe and Asia, separating the continents and connecting the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. The strait is approximately 31 kilometers (19 miles) long and its width varies from a minimum of 700 meters (2,300 feet) to a maximum of 3.7 kilometers (2.3 miles). The average depth is around 110 meters (360 feet).
