Blandadefasmoln refers to a specific type of cloud formation observed in atmospheric science. The term, of Swedish origin, translates to "mixed phase clouds." These clouds are characterized by the simultaneous presence of both liquid water droplets and ice crystals within the same cloud volume. This coexistence of phases is a critical factor influencing cloud properties, precipitation formation, and radiative transfer.

The formation of mixed-phase clouds is dependent on a delicate balance of temperature, pressure, and the presence of aerosol particles that can act as ice nuclei or condensation nuclei. Typically, mixed-phase clouds occur at temperatures between 0°C and -40°C. Below this range, clouds are generally composed entirely of ice crystals, and above 0°C, they consist solely of liquid water droplets.
