Birtokosnak

Birtokosnak is the dative singular form of the Hungarian noun birtokos, meaning "owner" or "possessor." In Hungarian, the dative case marks the indirect object or the beneficiary of an action, and it is formed by adding the suffix nak/nek to the noun. The choice between nak and nek follows vowel harmony; for eksempel, after back vowels the form is -nak, and after front vowels the form is -nek. With the stem birtokos, the suffix becomes -nak, producing birtokosnak.

The form is used when naming the recipient or beneficiary of an action. It answers questions such as to whom something is given or for whom something is intended. For example: A birtokosnak adtam egy ajándékot. (I gave a gift to the owner.) A birtokosnak mutattam meg a levelet. (I showed the letter to the owner.) In such sentences the noun in the dative position can be preceded by a definite article (a) or may appear without it, depending on the syntactic context.

Plural form and related usage: the dative plural is birtokosoknak, used for multiple owners. For example: A birtokosoknak adtam ajándékokat. (I gave gifts to the owners.)
