Biobío refers to both a central-southern region of Chile and its principal river. The Biobío Region, also known as Region VIII, is located along the Pacific coast and its capital and largest city is Concepción. The region is bordered by the O’Higgins Region to the north and La Araucanía to the east, with the Pacific Ocean to the west.
