BetaDGlukose, also known as beta-D-glucose, is a stereoisomer of glucose. Glucose is a simple sugar, a monosaccharide, with the chemical formula C6H12O6. In solution, glucose exists as an equilibrium mixture of cyclic hemiacetal forms and an open-chain form. Beta-D-glucose is one of the two cyclic anomers of D-glucose, the other being alpha-D-glucose. The designation "beta" refers to the orientation of the hydroxyl group on the anomeric carbon. In beta-D-glucose, this hydroxyl group is oriented above the plane of the ring, while in alpha-D-glucose, it is oriented below.
