Beneluxparlamentet

Beneluxparlamentet, commonly referred to as the Benelux Parliament, is the interparliamentary assembly of the Benelux Union, comprising representatives from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. It functions as a forum for parliamentary dialogue and cooperative policymaking among the three member states. Members are delegated by the three national legislatures; the assembly operates through plenary sessions and standing and ad hoc committees, producing resolutions and recommendations addressed to the governments and to the Benelux institutions. While its decisions are non-binding, they influence national and regional policy and help harmonize positions on issues of common interest.

The parliament is part of the Benelux institutional framework, alongside the Benelux Council of Ministers and the Benelux Secretariat-General. A permanent secretariat supports its work, handling administrative tasks, research, and the organization of meetings. Sessions rotate among the member states, and proceedings typically involve interpretation and translation to accommodate Dutch, French, and Luxembourgish, among other languages.

Core topics include cross-border cooperation, transport and infrastructure, energy and environment, economic matters, digital policy, justice and home affairs, research and culture. Through its work, the Benelux Parliament seeks to strengthen regional integration, share best practices, and contribute to the Benelux Union’s broader goals of economic coordination, sustainable development, and social cohesion.
