Belysningskraft

Belysningskraft, often translated as luminous efficacy, is a measure used in photometry and illumination engineering. It quantifies how well a light source produces visible light. Specifically, it describes the ratio of luminous flux (measured in lumens) emitted by a light source to the electrical power it consumes (measured in watts). A higher luminous efficacy indicates that a light source is more efficient at converting electrical energy into visible light, meaning it produces more light for the same amount of power.

This metric is crucial for comparing the efficiency of different lighting technologies. For example, incandescent bulbs have a low luminous efficacy, typically around 10-17 lumens per watt, while modern LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights can achieve luminous efficacies of over 100 lumens per watt. This significant difference explains why LEDs are widely adopted for energy-saving purposes. Factors such as the spectral distribution of the emitted light and the operating temperature of the light source can influence luminous efficacy. While luminous efficacy focuses on visible light output, luminous flux itself represents the total quantity of visible light emitted by a source.
