Belmondo
Belmondo is a French surname. The most prominent bearer is Jean-Paul Belmondo (1933–2021), a leading French actor celebrated for his role in the French New Wave and his long, varied film career. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he became a major figure in cinema after starring in Breathless (1960), directed by Jean-Luc Godard, a film that helped define the era and created an international profile for Belmondo. Over the following decades he appeared in a wide range of genres, including thrillers, comedies, and action films, and he remained a popular figure in French cinema well into the 1980s and 1990s. In addition to film work, Belmondo pursued stage acting and occasional television projects, earning acclaim for his charisma and versatility, while becoming one of the most recognizable French actors of his generation.
