Beaugency

Beaugency is a commune in the Loiret department in north-central France. It is situated on the north bank of the Loire River, approximately 20 kilometers west of Orléans. The town is known for its historical significance, particularly its role during the Hundred Years' War.

Historically, Beaugency was a strategic point due to its bridge over the Loire. The town's most notable landmark is the Château de Beaugency, a medieval castle with a history stretching back to the 11th century. The town also features the Église Notre-Dame, a Romanesque church.

During the medieval period, Beaugency was an important administrative and economic center. It was a focal point of conflict between the English and French during the Hundred Years' War, with significant battles and sieges occurring in and around the town. Joan of Arc played a role in liberating Beaugency in 1429.

In more recent history, Beaugency has developed as a charming tourist destination, attracting visitors interested in its historical architecture and the scenic Loire Valley.
