Basismengeneinheiten

Basismengeneinheiten, or "base quantity units" in English, are fundamental units within a system of measurement that are defined independently of other units. These units form the building blocks upon which all other derived units in that system are constructed. The most prominent example of a system utilizing basismengeneinheiten is the International System of Units (SI).

In the SI system, there are seven basismengeneinheiten. These are the meter (m) for length, the kilogram (kg) for mass, the second (s) for time, the ampere (A) for electric current, the kelvin (K) for thermodynamic temperature, the mole (mol) for amount of substance, and the candela (cd) for luminous intensity. Each of these units is defined by a precise physical phenomenon or constant, ensuring consistency and universality.

Derived units, in contrast, are formed by combining the basismengeneinheiten through multiplication, division, or both. For instance, the unit of force, the newton (N), is derived from the basismengeneinheiten of mass, length, and time as kg⋅m/s². Similarly, the unit of energy, the joule (J), is kg⋅m²/s². The concept of basismengeneinheiten is crucial for establishing a coherent and interconnected system of measurement that can be applied across all scientific and technical disciplines. The independence of these base units means that any changes or redefinitions to a derived unit would not necessitate changes to the base units, and vice versa, contributing to the stability and integrity of the measurement system.
