Bamberga

Bamberga, also known as Bamberg, is a historic city located in the northern part of the German state of Bavaria. Situated along the banks of the Regnitz River, it serves as the administrative center of the Bamberg district and is renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, UNESCO World Heritage status, and rich cultural heritage.

Founded in the 10th century by the Ottonian dynasty, Bamberg played a significant role in the Holy Roman Empire. The city became an episcopal see in 1007 when it was chosen as the seat of the Bishopric of Bamberg by Emperor Henry II. Bamberg’s historic breweries, including the *Schlenkerla* and *Kehrwieder*, produce some of Germany’s most celebrated beers, particularly the dark *Rauchbier* (smoked beer), which is brewed using malt dried over beechwood fires.
