Autokatalüütiline refers to a process where a reaction product acts as a catalyst for the same reaction. In essence, the reaction catalyzes itself. This self-accelerating nature means that as more product is formed, the rate of the reaction increases. Autokatalysis is a fundamental concept that appears in various scientific disciplines, including chemistry, biology, and even economics.

In chemistry, an autokatalytic reaction typically involves a species that is both a reactant and a catalyst. For example, a molecule might be consumed to produce more of itself, and this produced molecule then speeds up the consumption of the original molecule. This can lead to a characteristic sigmoidal curve when plotting product concentration against time, showing an initial slow phase followed by a rapid acceleration and then a plateau as reactants are depleted.
