Atmosphärenentzug, also known as atmospheric extraction or atmospheric scavenging, refers to processes where substances are removed from the Earth's atmosphere. This can occur naturally or through anthropogenic means. Natural processes include precipitation, which washes aerosols and soluble gases from the air, and deposition, where particles settle onto surfaces. Chemical reactions within the atmosphere can also transform gaseous pollutants into less harmful or particulate forms, effectively removing them from their original gaseous state.

Human activities also contribute to atmospheric entzug. Industrial processes and power plants often employ scrubbers and filters to remove pollutants like sulfur dioxide and particulate matter from their exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere. In some cases, technologies are being developed to directly capture carbon dioxide from the air, a process known as direct air capture, with the goal of mitigating climate change.
