Asutifi

Asutifi is a traditional area in Ghana, located in what is now the Bono East Region. Historically part of the Brong-Ahafo Region, it has served as the basis for several administrative divisions and is centered on the town of Kenyasi, with a number of rural communities surrounding it.

Economy: Gold mining has long been a feature of Asutifi, with many small-scale operators active in the area. Agriculture is also important, with crops such as cocoa, yams, cassava, plantains, and vegetables cultivated by smallholder farmers. Livestock rearing and local trade support livelihoods in many communities.

Demographics and culture: The population is predominantly Bono-speaking Akan people. Traditional chiefs and councils play a key role in local governance and cultural life, with ceremonies and festivals reflecting the area’s heritage and social structure.

Education and infrastructure: Asutifi districts typically provide basic education facilities, including primary and secondary schools, along with efforts to expand health facilities and road networks. Access to electricity and telecommunications has improved in many communities, contributing to development and connectivity.

Administration and history: The area’s administrative status has evolved with Ghana’s regional reorganization, and Asutifi is now associated with the Bono East Region. It remains identified by its traditional chieftaincies as well as by its mining and farming economy, which continue to shape local development.
