Arvonindeksejä, known in English as "share indices" or "stock indices," are statistical measures that represent the performance of a group of stocks. They are calculated by aggregating the prices of selected securities, typically weighted by market capitalization. These indices serve as benchmarks for evaluating the performance of investment portfolios and the overall health of the stock market.

The most common type of share index is market-capitalization-weighted, meaning that larger companies have a greater influence on the index's movement than smaller ones. Other types of indices exist, such as price-weighted indices where higher-priced stocks have more impact, and equally-weighted indices where each stock contributes the same amount to the index's value.

Major global indices include the S&P 500 in the United States, the FTSE 100 in the United Kingdom, and the DAX in Germany. In Finland, the Nasdaq Helsinki main index is the OMX Helsinki 25, which tracks the performance of the 25 most traded stocks on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

Arvonindeksejä are widely used by investors, financial analysts, and economists. They help in understanding market trends, making investment decisions, and developing financial products like index funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
